Whats Invloved?

There are 3 specific levels of testing and all must be completed to reach the Standard set by the D.S.A. (Driving Standards Agency).

PART 1 - THEORY TEST

There is a total of 925 questions within the bank of questions available, of which a total of 100 will be contained in the exam, there are 4 discipline subjects and the pass mark for each discipline must be a minimum of 85% on each subject (eg: 90% on 3 disciplines and 70% on 1 subject would be a fail mark).

There is also the hazard perception section of the test consisting of 14 video clips containing development hazards which must be recognised by yourself in good time, by "clicking" the "left key" of the mouse, the pass mark for this section of the test is 44 from a possible 75. If you fail 1 part of the theory test you must resit the full test. You can sit the theory test as many times as necessary.

PART II - DRIVING ABILITY

Although your driving skills have developed over the years, the standard to teach pupils is very high. Part II ill break down all aspects of you driving skills and rebuild them to the standard set down by the D.S.A,. contained in the skills will be a total of 6 manouveres namely "Turn in the Road" Left and right reverse, Reverse Parking, Bay Parking and Emergency Stop. Motorway Driving is also contained in your Driving Test.

Your test will be conducted by a Senior Driving Test Examiner and will last approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. The pass mark is no more that 6 minor faults with no serious faults recorded. Standard pass mark is for learners is 15 minors and no serious faults. Only 3 attempts are allowed on Part II.

PART III - INSTRUCTIONAL ABILITY

This is your ability to impart the knowledge that you have learned on your Part II training. There are 10 pre set tests consisting of a Phase I and Phase II. The test examiner will pick what pre set test you have to undertake and he/she will act as your pupil during your test. The Pass mark of a minimum of 4 out of a possible 6. both Phase I and Phase II carry this pass mark. The test will last approximately 1 half hour for each phase.


Financial Outlay?

If you would like to pursue Driving Instruction as a career, an interview can be arranged to discuss your personal circumstances and the best method for you to take the first steps towards this. No money is required up front unless you prefer to do so. "pay as you go" is the preferred route for most candidates.


What Qualifications Do I Need?

You must hold a full British Driving Licence for at least 3 years and having no more than 6 penalty points a "disclosure scotland" check must also be carried out before you can be eligible to register as a P.D.I. (Potential Driving Instructor).


How Quickly Can I Complete The Course?

Once registered with the D.S.A. you have a total of 2 years to complete all 3 levels of the test. The pace that you decide to conduct your training is largely down to yourself, as your personal and work commitments will be a factor in your training time. During your interview a full discussion will take place and advice given based on your circumstances and needs.
